Ashana Bigard

Ashana Bigard is a fifth-generation New Orleans native, mother of three, social justice organizer, and lifelong advocate for the health, education, and human rights of Black children and families in Louisiana. She has spent more than two decades on the front lines — in hospitals, school board meetings, courtrooms, and community centers — fighting for families navigating systems that were never designed to serve them.
She sat in over 100 community meetings after Hurricane Katrina watching Black families articulate detailed, specific visions for their children's education — and then watching white outsiders build something that delivered the opposite. That experience is the foundation of everything she does.
She is the director of Amplify Justice and the Erase the Board Coalition, a former fellow at The Progressive magazine, a published author, a director, a producer, and the creator of Second Line Truth — a free resource built because families deserve the information that systems have spent generations hiding from them.
